Quite An Entrance

Written by Vic on . Posted in

Zik and Trent are feeling confident that this riot will end in a quick victory for the prisoners, so they continue to try to find Amelia. Meanwhile, some of the other prisoners try to enter a locked restricted area to hunt for more clonoids to fight. It looks like they got more than they bargained for, though! Something beats down the door from the other side! Look at the size of that fist!

Hey guys! Check out what I did between pages! I did this nifty digital painting for my Iron Tiger buddy Jordan of Hominids! It features some nasty dudes from the flesh eater tribe eating an unfortunate neanderthal. It’s a bit bloody and gory, so don’t click if that bothers you!

The clonoid soldiers aren’t interested in talking, so the prisoners decide to feed them lunch – a knuckle sandwich! Knowing that this is the breakpoint, our scheming friend presses the attack with a rock to the face! Sure enough, the clonoid soldiers fall back on their default setting when attacked by surprise: kill everyone and let the clonoid drones sort out the mess!

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to page 100 of Zik the Gallant Defender of Zoz! I’ve been having a really fun time telling this story for you, and I hope it’s been an enjoyable read until now. This story is going to get frenetic from here on in, so strap yourselves in! Thanks for being with me on this journey so far!

Zik has used the prisoner cloak for the last time to get close enough to the guards to talk to them! Now that the need for disguises is over, he can gallantly (of course) cast it aside and ask for a negotiation! What will be the response? Stay tuned for page 100! Things are about to heat up!

Hi guys! Let me thank you again for signing up as subscribers… you rock! I’m going to try something new I read about for the next few pages. Basically, I’m trying to speed up my process. Since I have such a limited amount of time to work on Zik, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for tips on cranking out pages quicker. One thing I found in an article on the subject was the idea of working in phases. This author did each phase for all the pages in his book at once. So first the script, then the thumbnails, then the layouts, then the word balloons, then pencils, etc, but for all the pages at once. This makes sense to me; it lets you get into the zone and use the custom tools you’ve developed for each phase and rocket through all the pages at once. At my work, we often do packaging for DVDs and Blu Rays. We’ve found that if each person does just one part of the task for all the discs it goes quicker than if we each take part of the stack and package it from start to finish. So I’m going to try it. I’m going to do maybe 5 pages all at once and see if it goes quicker. You can follow along in the Progress Blog to see where I’m at. Wish me luck!

Over The Cliff

Wow! A new Zik page! Sorry for my extended absence.  As you know if you’ve been reading the blog part of this comic, I’m posting on a random update schedule due to my wife’s increasing needs for my help.  Her condition has deteriorated significantly since my last update, and it’s been quite a struggle to keep things running smoothly. There are some significant financial stresses involved as well, as the medication bill is skyrocketing. All that to say that for the foreseeable future, Zik pages will continue to be posted on a random basis as I get snippets of time here and there. Thanks for your patience!
