Time To Fly

Posted by Victor on .

Defender Zik checks on Trent as they recover from nearly getting crushed by the meteorite debris.  Trent thanks Zik, who assures them they’re now even when it comes to cliff-related mishaps.

A worried Amelia checks in on them, and urges them to get on board the Temerity as quickly as possible, as more meteorites are falling nearby!  Sten and Dakaasin call them into the top hatch, since the cargo hold is now too full to get on board that way.

Once on board, Zik lets Amelia know they’re ready to go! Dak and Sten hustle off to get the engines calibrated to compensate for the huge additional mass they’ve taken aboard. Amelia tells everyone to hold on, and gunning the engines, she launches the Temerity off planet Hypnos!

Faulty Assumptions

While Trent Quickdraw tries to get a message back to the Temerity, Amelia coaxes the crystals out of the cave. But there’s a problem with each plan: the ship still isn’t responding, and the crystals have balked at the cave entrance!

Even though there are some crystals outside of the cave, the bulk have moved to the cave entrance and seem to be unable to leave. Frustrated, Amelia starts to go back into the cave to find Defender Zik before the crystals grow too thick to pass. But Trent tries to stop her from rushing back in.

Amelia’s temper flares, and she rounds on Trent.  She indelicately reminds Trent that the two of them survived the factory explosion because Zik decided to move an unconscious Trent out of the riot. She refuses to abandon Zik to the crystal-filled cave!

Trent finally gets a word in, and explains his plan to use the Temerity’s much stronger broadcasting abilities to lure the crystals out of the cave. Realizing she was wrong to assume Trent was giving up, Amelia apologizes for her short temper and jumps on the new strategy.. but will it work?

A Table Or Two

Thinking quickly, Zik dons his breather mask and turns back to the ship.  The force of the wind could easily blow him too far away to get back on board in time, so he hustles to deploy his EVR system.

Back on board, he sees that Amelia is stuck in the doorway, holding on for dear life! Morren broke off her breather, so if she gets spaced, she’s a goner!  Zik plugs the giant hole with the only thing at hand – two tables!

As the wind diminishes, Amelia regains her footing.  Zik asks her to hand him the Hull Putty™ canister so he can plug the remaining holes between the tables.  Amelia, like Trent, has never been in space before, and this kind of battle is all new to her, so she’s understandably confused as to why there was a sudden explosion.  Zik deduces that someone blew up the Jairian Hull Breacher vessel that was attached and plugging the hole with its breaching dock, and he guesses that a rookie mistake like that is sure to anger his buddy Captain James Anchor!
