What’s a webcomic?

It’s just a comic on the internet! Digital comics have been around for a few decades, and these days there are even sites like WebToons which host hundreds of comics on them. Here’s a good summary of webcomics. Defender Zik is just one of thousands, but it’s the best one because you’re here reading it… thanks!

What’s Defender Zik about?

These are the adventures of the galaxy’s greatest hero! The story is set over 1000 years in the future, at a time where humanity is struggling to survive. Zik comes from a planet colonized by the very first settlers to leave Earth, a people who’ve been cut off from everyone else for a millennium. Only now are they re-establishing contact with the rest of humanity and learning the shocking story of what became of them.

Zik himself is a man who has an unusual psychological quirk in that he never feels fear. It’s a useful trait in dangerous situations, but it makes him reckless! He finds himself in extraordinary situations time and again, and has earned the nickname “Defender Zik” or “Zik the Gallant Defender of Zoz” by repeatedly conquering the seemingly impossible.

How do I use this site?

A physical comic has pages, and each issue is its own book. Online, we can fit all the books into a single site, and we navigate pages with buttons. On this site, individual “books” are referred to as “episodes.” In order to flip through the pages, we use these buttons:

It’s pretty straightforward: “Next” displays the next page, and “Previous” displays the previous page. The “First” and “Newest” buttons teleport you to the beginning or the newest page in the whole story. If a button is greyed out, that means you’re at the beginning or end and can’t go any further in that direction yet. 

If you’d like more information on the characters, or you’d like to browse the episode list, use the menu bar at the top of the page. You’ll find all the features of the site are accessible there, so have fun exploring!

This comic is in the process of creation – you’re seeing the pages soon after I finish creating them! I post new pages as soon as they’re completed, so check back often to see the story as it unfolds! You can also follow me on X to get notified when new pages are added.
